The German philosopher Walter Benjamin wrote in 1931 in his short essay "Unpacking my library", that collecting was an important gesture, because it means giving importance to things, implementing a sort of transfiguration in them and inserting them in a context different from the immediate and often banal way in which we encountered them in everyday life.
